Princeton Review party schools 2010 were released Monday. This year, University of Georgia is No. 1 on Princeton Review’s popular party school list. To deflect the negative publicity, UGA officials emphasized that other more reputable categories of the Princeton Review college ratings integrated the school. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Mormon school Brigham Young University topped the list of “Stone-cold sober schools” for the 13th sequential year.
UGA tops party school list for the first time
UGA has appeared within the Princeton party school positions 10 times since the list began in 1992. This year, the university claimed the top spot for the first time. The Associated Press reports that the UGA campus is surrounded by nearly 100 bars in tiny downtown Athens, Ga. Parties are part of student life from August to May each year. Many students gear up for the weekend on Thursdays and sometimes don’t rest until Monday morning. The list on not one any school wants to lead, a UGA spokesperson told AP. He said he’d rather emphasize that in other Princeton Review college rankings, the school made the top 50 “Best Values” list and the “Green Honor Roll” of probably the most environmentally conscious campuses.
State schools show up often within the Princeton party ranks
Freshman boys and girls bound for UGA may have gotten a little more stoked about the fall term when the Princeton party school rankers were released, as outlined by AOL News. Following the usual pattern, state schools make up the majority of the top 10 in 2010. Nearby in Athens, Ohio University was runner up to UGA. Georgia beat out Pennsylvania State University, West Virginia University and University of Florida – which were the top Princeton party schools over the last three years.
Recent history earns UGA its top party school ranking
Starting several campaigns to curb student drinking and reverse the school’s party reputation did little to keep UGA from topping the Princeton party rankings. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that UGA has implemented harsh penalties for student’s busted for drinking and violating tougher football game day tailgating rules. After a September 2009 football game, UGA tailgaters trashed the school’s historic North Campus with about 70 tons of garbage. There were reports of intoxicated students urinating and defecating of campus buildings. And previous athletic director Damon Evans resigned last month, shortly after his drunken driving arrest. Before Evans was arrested, he taped public service announcements for the university urging students not to drink and drive.
