For the very first time in recent memory, the Labor Department has some good employment news. Evidently, employers are getting ready for a back to school special, as more individuals were hired in August and jobless cases fell. Recovery within the job market is going to take longer than hoped, as signs point to a slow march toward recovery. There was other good news. The trade deficit narrowed. Good news travels fast. When Wall Street got the news, there was a gain in stocks. A double dip economic downturn might be less likely than the naysayers contend.
August a great month for employees as jobless claims drop
Unemployed claims, or new filings for unemployment benefits, fell over the last month to the lowest level in two months, as outlined by ABC. There were 27,000 fewer claims filed. The number of jobless claims is seasonally adjusted to 451,000 which beat Department of Labor estimate of 470,000. In August, private companies went on a miniature employing spree. Overall, 67,000 jobs were added to payrolls nationwide. .
The trade deficit somewhat diminishes
A trade deficit is when the amount of imported goods exceeds exported goods. The trade deficit for the United States actually shrank in August. It seems more individuals are willing to purchase American. Exports rose by 1.8 percent, to $ 153.3 billion in exports. The bulk of exports were of computers, aircraft, and machinery. Imports fell to $ 196.1 billion, a 2.1 percent decline. The fall for August is encouraging, as it marks a 14 percent decline from June, when imports rose 3 percent. That said, the main exporters to the United States of America actually shipped more goods. The bulk of imports come to the United States of America from Germany and China.
Increases on The stock market
The good news of more new hires, fewer people taking joblessness and more goods being shipped by American corporations led to a slight climb within the stock markets. It was not a huge boost. It was less than 1 percent for all indexes. Recovery is happening. It’s just taking its sweet time.
