Chrysler was linked to a recent scandal by some workers from a plant. A local whistleblower report caught some plant workers involved in some questionable activities. There was a small group of individuals from a Chrysler plant that had some questionable habits during their lunch break. A group of men would go to a nearby recreation area on break to drink and use drugs. Someone gave a tip to a news station in Detroit, who filmed the men partaking and then the story broke. A swift resolution was promised and delivered by Chrysler. Chrysler acted easily. Not long right after the report aired, the people in question were all put on suspension. Chrysler has fired 13 of the participants and placed two more on suspension.
Guzzling a lot more than gasoline
A tip was received by Detroit Fox affiliate WJBK 2 concerning the staff from the Jefferson North Chrysler plant, according to USA Today. The plant only handles one vehicle. It is where the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokees are assembled. The station was tipped off that workers from the plant would go to a local park to drink alcohol and smoke what appeared to be marijuana. The ritual went on for 5 consecutive days, until an anchor asked them what the heck they were doing. The party broke up. The news crew followed them back to the plant. To make matters worse, the investigative report comes days after a visit and stump speech by President Obama.
All but 2 dismissed>
Chrysler Motors could not fire any person at first, so 15 were put on suspension. Due to agreements made between Chrysler and the United Auto Workers, correct procedure has to be dismissed before any person can be terminated. There were 13 individuals terminated, and two more placed on suspension, as outlined by Automotive News. Chrysler insists build quality is not affected. Quality control and inspection are automated. The UAW also issued a statement that the behavior of the terminated workers isn’t indicative of the quality of other UAW workers.
Extremely unsafe
The “Three Martini Lunch” went the way of the Dodo. Workplaces have to be safe. That is especially true of industrial sites. Showing up intoxicated compromises that safety. Those individuals could have gotten someone killed.
